EOLO: The Best Boutique Hotel in Patagonia
For many, Patagonia is a bucket list destination. The region, which spans across both Chile and Argentina, is best known for its beautiful landscapes, vast glaciers, abundance of national parks, and unique wildlife.
And if you stay on the Argentine side, there’s no better place to call home than one of the best boutique hotels in the region: EOLO - Patagonia’s Spirit.
As a travel agency owner, I’ve had the opportunity to stay in a number of boutique hotels around the world. After having spent a few days at EOLO, I can assure you that this one-of-a-kind, 4-star luxury retreat will have you feeling right at home in Patagonia.

HOW TO GET TO EOLO
EOLO is located just 25-minutes outside of the city of El Calafate, near Los Glaciares National Park. The hotel is easily accessible, yet still miles away from the tourists that crowd the streets of El Calafate in peak season.
If you’re visiting Patagonia Argentina from the United States, you will likely fly into Buenos Aires. From there, you will make the journey to El Calafate Airport (FTE). The best way to get from El Calafate Airport to EOLO is by car. You can opt to rent a car or arrange a private transfer.
I went with the private airport transfer for added convenience, which the hotel concierge was more than happy to coordinate on my behalf. If you go this route, you can expect to be greeted in the airport upon arrival.
A ride from El Calafate Airport to EOLO will typically take around 50 minutes.
THE PROPERTY AT EOLO
At its core, EOLO is an understated luxury retreat. The property itself is set on a 10,000 acre estancia that boasts breathtaking views from just about every angle. The interiors of this boutique hotel are minimal yet modern, which perfectly complements the surrounding landscape.
So, to put it simply, absolutely nothing can compare to the views offered from each and every window.
Depending on the day, you may wake up to wildlife grazing outside of your window or possibly even catch a once-in-a-lifetime sunset while you sip on a glass of Malbec from the balcony.
THE ROOMS & SUITES AT EOLO
EOLO is not only understated but also intimate. As I mentioned previously, this 17-room boutique hotel is meant for relaxing and becoming one with your surroundings. (You won’t find a TV in any of the rooms, but I promise that you aren’t likely to notice.)
The hotel offers three different categories of rooms: The Superior Room, The Premium Room, and The Corner Room. Here is an overview of the different categories:
The Superior Room is the entry level room at this hotel. It is 400 square feet and allows for double occupancy. There are 12 rooms in this category.
The Premium Room is the middle room category. It is 500 square feet and allows for triple occupancy. It also boasts a second window. There are 3 rooms in this category.
The Corner Room is the highest room category at EOLO. It is 515 square feet and has expansive windows for maximum views. There are 2 rooms in this category.
During my visit, I opted for a superior room, which was perfect for two adults. I loved sitting in front of the window watching the wildlife every morning.
THE EXPERIENCES AT EOLO
If you’re headed to Patagonia Argentina, chances are that you’re in search of adventure. Well, lucky for you, there is no shortage of experiences both at and near EOLO.
During your visit, I recommend that you dedicate at least one day to exploring the EOLO property. You’ll be able to trek across the property, explore via four wheel drive, or even take a horseback riding tour. My favorite excursion was the horseback riding tour to the flamingos lake with EOLO’s own expert guide.
The staff at EOLO can also help to coordinate experiences throughout the Patagonia region. The property is located just a short drive from Los Glaciares National Park, so you’ll have a number of options to explore the Perito Moreno Glacier area. I opted for (and very highly recommend) the minitrekking experience.
The EOLO team also helped coordinate a full day hiking trip to El Chalten, which included roundtrip private transport, a prepared lunch, and recommended hiking routes based on our experience level.
In short, if you’re coming to Patagonia for adventure, EOLO makes for the perfect home base.
THE DINING AT EOLO
When you stay at EOLO, all of your meals come included in the price of your stay. And every single meal was exceptional.
The menu was ever changing and highlighted different regional dishes each night. EOLO also keeps wine experts on staff to help you find the perfect wine to accompany your meal. The wine cellar is vast and features exclusively Argentinian wines.
And for those adventure-packed days, the EOLO team always had a to-go breakfast or prepared lunch to hand us on our way out the door.
THE SERVICE AT EOLO
When it comes to a boutique hotel stay, a key aspect is undoubtedly service. It’s what, in my opinion, separates an “aesthetic” hotel from the real deal.
At EOLO, the service is a large part of what makes this luxury retreat one-of-a-kind. The staff was friendly, helpful, and anticipated my every need. I also appreciated all of the small touches.
When I arrived back at EOLO from my minitrekking session across Perito Moreno Glacier, for example, the staff was ready with hot tea and small bites. Each night after dinner, I would come back to a note on my nightstand with my itinerary for the next day.
And on the day I was headed to the airport? My prepared lunch was waiting for me at the checkout desk.
