Susurros del Corazon Review: Paradise in Punta Mita

The tides are changing on the beaches of Mexico—and leading the way is none other than Punta Mita, a tropical paradise located just to the north of Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta.

As a travel agency owner, I can tell you that Punta Mita is special. Instead of sprawling resorts touting their “all-inclusive” offerings, you’ll find luxury properties serving up five-star dining in the most intimate of settings.

If you’re lucky enough to be headed to Punta Mita, you’ll want to add a stay at Auberge’s Susurros del Corazon to your itinerary. After spending five days there with my family, I can say confidently that Susurros is a top choice for a luxurious beach getaway.

Here’s an inside look at what it’s like to stay at Susurros del Corazon.

GETTING TO SUSURROS

Susurros is located just 45 minutes north of the vibrant city of Puerto Vallarta, situated on the coastline of Punta Mita. From the resort, you’ll get sweeping views of the Marietas Islands and easy access to trendy surf hotspot Sayulita, which is about 25 minutes away.

You’ll want to fly into the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and arrive to the resort via private transport. The resort’s “itinerary designers” are more than happy to help coordinate your roundtrip transportation to and from the airport.

A ride from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport to Susurros del Corazon will typically take around 45 minutes.

THE PROPERTY AT SUSURROS

When you pull up to the gates, you’ll be welcomed onto a property where boutique hotel meets luxury resort—in all of the best ways. Think five-star luxury in a relaxed, secluded, and unpretentious setting.

The highlight of the property is the three cascading pools that overlook the private and pristine white sand beach. The three pools are ideal for a midday dip and perfect for taking in the beautiful evening sunset. While I spent much of my trip laidback next to the “family pool” and “relax pool,” the lively “adult pool” featured music and a swim-up bar.

I loved that the beach and pools never felt too crowded. (So no need to fight over lounge chairs here, I promise.)

Beyond the beach and pools, the Susurros property also features a state-of-the-art workout facility with complimentary classes offered daily and ONDA, an immaculate spa with an extensive treatment menu.

THE ROOMS AND SUITES AT SUSURROS

Susurros is a smaller resort, having only 59 rooms and 30 villas. The rooms are tastefully decorated with modern, Mexican made products that perfectly compliment the resort’s peaceful beach setting.

I stayed in a Garden Casita that featured floor to ceiling windows and its own large, beautiful terrace. The room was ideal for my family of three (two adults and an infant). We started multiple mornings on our terrace enjoying a bit of coffee and chilaquiles—highly recommend!

Impressively, most of the rooms that I saw featured either a beautiful view or a private plunge pool. You also have a number of different size rooms to choose from (so they can definitely accommodate large groups and multigenerational families).

In short, Susurros has something for just about everyone.

THE DINING AT SUSURROS

While there are a handful of different dining options at the resort, all of the restaurants have one thing in common: an emphasis on high quality, local ingredients.

My compliments to Executive Chef Tonatiuh Cuevas, who curated the spectacular, fresh menus at Susurros. I still dream about the aguachile del pacifico and the pichi ice cream, which they serve up poolside and at La Boquita. My husband also ate too many ribeye tacos to count.

Here are the can’t-miss restaurants to visit during your stay at Susurros:

  • Casamilpa, the premier Mexican restaurant at the resort, serves up a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  • La Boquita, a laidback bar restaurant combo, that has small plates, fresh cocktails, and even creative NA cocktails on offer. Come here for tacos, ceviches, and the like.

  • Acapulco, the poolside option, is located at the adults only pool. But, you can order from the Acapulco menu from just about any lounger on the property.

  • Savor the Sunset, the intimate beachfront dining experience, has a rotating menu ranging from Asian to Mediterranean. The sunset, food, and overall ambiance made this experience one to remember.

  • Mita, a convenient on-site coffee shop, that serves up grab-and-go coffee, juice, and pastries each morning.

THE EXPERIENCES AT SUSURROS

With an extensive list of experiences to choose from, you will most definitely not go bored at Susurros. I particularly loved that the experiences on offer aim to connect guests with the local culture in a meaningful way.

So, which experiences are too good to miss?

Well, for my trip, the highlights were the culinary immersion experiences, like the Zarandeado Cooking Class and the Taco and Tequila pairing. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you won’t want to miss getting up-close-and-personal with a few humpback whales off of the coast.

If you’re hoping to stay active during your stay, the activity calendar always includes complimentary fitness classes. You can also play some pickleball, sign up for surfing lessons, or take advantage of the spa amenities.

Essentially, your options are endless.

THE SERVICE AT SUSURROS

At Susurros, each guest is assigned a personal “cuate” (also known as a buddy) for the duration of their stay. From the welcome drink on arrival to the checkout process at departure, my “cuate”—pictured above—was there to support my family every step of the way.

My “cuate” and the Susurros staff were phenomenal. I woke up every single morning to a pot of fresh, hot coffee sitting outside of the door. They happily coordinated last minute tours and were always reachable via WhatsApp.

I also very much appreciated the staff’s attentiveness and friendly demeanor. By the end of my stay, I felt as though I had some made some truly wonderful friends in Punta Mita.

THE FAMILY AT SUSURROS

As a luxury travel advisor, I know that the words “luxury” and “family friendly” don’t always go hand in hand. Thankfully, my stay at Susurros hit both of the marks.

The staff had my four-month-old daughter feeling right at home in Mexico. They went above and beyond by outfitting the room with an actual crib (not a pack ‘n play), a microwave for sterilizing bottles, and even a diaper pail.

For afternoons by the pool, the staff eagerly offered to move umbrellas to keep baby well shaded from the sun. I also thought the NA beer and NA cocktails were a nice touch for new and expecting parents.

For families traveling with older kids, the resort makes childcare and the Morritos Kids Club available. Overall, I would not hesitate to head back to Susurros for another family vacation.
